Coming in January - Changes to SheetLoad Artist Team - The New Hires

Today is the day to share the news of our "new hires" with SheetLoad readers!!

You have probably already learned of our "retirees" and "transfer", and are now anxiously awaiting to see who we are bringing on board.

Wait no longer...

Photobucket Photobucket

These faces may look familiar to you, and here is why.

Katie Skiff has been a loyal fan/reader of SheetLoad for quite some time. I have always enjoyed seeing her interpretations of our sketches and perusing her blog for other great ideas. Recently she shared a tutorial on our sister site, ShortCuts, how to create a Snow Globe card using a Frosted Card blank. I hope you will stop by her blog and welcome her to the SheetLoad team.

Marlene Lo was first introduced to SheetLoad readers in the October '08 issue, as our Guest Artist. I just love her clean, simple, style and think she will fit in great with the rest of our team. Make sure to visit her blog for lots of great eye-candy and to welcome her to the team.

Coming in January - Changes to SheetLoad Artist Team - The Transfers

As first discussed in this post, there are going to be lots of changes in 2009 to the SheetLoad Artist Team.

You already know the "retirees", in the next installment you will meet the "new hires" and today I am going to share a "transfer" we have.

Photobucket

Starting with the March issue, Barbara DeBose, will be transferring to the position of Sketch Artist. Barbara has been a Sample Artist for SheetLoad since the beginning. Not only am I lucky enough to have her create for th eZine, but she is a personal friend of mine.

Over the last few months she has been asking me when she could do a sketch for the eZine and has even submitted some ideas.

With Carla leaving us in January, we had a Sketch Artist opening, so I thought Barbara would be perfect for it. She did not hesitate at all to accept the position.

Coming in January - Changes to SheetLoad Artist Team - The Retirees

2009 will be bringing many changes to SheetLoad and some of them have to do with our team of awesome artists. There will be some "retirees", some "transfers" and even "new hires"!!

Today I would like to share with you some of our retirees. Each of them will be missed and all of their hard work throughout the months has been greatly appreciated.

First to leave is Carla.
Photobucket
Carla has been a sketch artist for us since "way back". In fact the first issue of SheetLoad was inspired by a sketch she shared online. I loved it so much, I had to create a magazine around it. ;)
The good news (for me) is that I will still get to work with her, as she is part of my first ShortCuts Design Team!

Second on our retiring list is Gloria.
Photobucket
We will be sad to see her leave as a member of the Design Team, but luckily for me she is my mom, so I will get to collaborate with her for many years to come. ;) In her personal life she is coming back out of retirement, as a teacher, to help a student that must be instructed from home.

Our last retiree this year will be Jen.
Photobucket
Jen, and her lovely work, will be greatly missed. SheetLoad was her "second job" and she needs to step down to focus on her "first job" -- She creates lovely pieces for Cornish Heritage Farms, so you can still see her awesome work online.

Thanks ladies for all of your dedication and creations! If you ever need a "job" again, I hope you will consider coming back. *hugs*

Make sure to check back later in the week to see who is "transferring" to another position here at SheetLoad.

Denise's December Techniques

As promised in the December issue, we are sharing the details on how Denise created each of her samples in the issue.
She gave such great descriptions, that I didn't want to miss out on sharing them because of space constraints in the eZine.

Card 1: Come Let Us Adore Him - Featured on Page 7
For this card, I watercolored the image of the drummer boy with the distress inks and a waterbrush. I cut out a manger and some “hay” and pieced it. I sponged the white ink onto the blue paper to give the impression that the star is leading the way to the baby.
Card 2: Come Let us Adore Him with Donkey - Featured on Page 10
For this card, I watercolored the drummer boy, lamb, and donkey using the distress inks, Stampin’ Up inks, and waterbrush. I sponged blue ink for the background and the yellow for the star and the star “shine”. I masked the lamb and drummer boy in order to sponge the blue and the ground. I cut out the donkey after watercoloring him and glued him onto the paper.
Card 3: Come Let Us Adore Him Landscape View - Featured on Page 6
For this card, I watercolored the skin of the drummer boy and the cow. I masked the boy and the lamb so the cow would appear behind them. I paper pieced the lambs, clothing, drum, and sand dunes by stamping the image on many different scraps, cutting them out, and gluing them onto another image.. I sponged blue ink on the front of the card, leaving a strip of “starshine” uninked.
Card 4: Drummer Boy Above Bethlehem - Featured on Page 8
For this card I masked the boy and stamped the cow. Both are colored in with Prismacolor pencils and blended with odorless mineral spirits. I made the flap into a “fence” to give the impression of the stable with little bits of “hay” peeking through.
